Give the hive a math problem. Each bee carries one step of the
solution into a honeycomb cell — order of operations, one operator at a
time — until the queen cell in the middle holds the answer. Arithmetic
(3 + 4 * 2), a simple linear equation
(2x + 3 = 11), or a plain-English word problem
("Sam has 3 apples and buys 4 more") all work — for a word problem, a
reader bee flies in first to translate the sentence into a sum before
the rest of the swarm solves it. Or switch to homework set and
hand the swarm a whole worksheet at once.
